QATARGAS LNG SHUTDOWN

GE Oil & Gas awarded Kentech the contract for installation, mechanical completion and commissioning of the first maintenance shutdown on the compressor gas turbines for the Qatargas LNG Trains at Ras Laffan Industrial City.

Qatargas conducts maintenance shutdowns once a year, during which the three Gas Turbines MS5002D Modules and two Gas Turbines MS5002C Modules on one of the trains are replaced with new or renovated spare parts.  These turbines are all manufactured by GE Oil & Gas (Nuovo Pignone).  The modules removed from the trains are transported to a workshop where they are overhauled.

Kentech undertook mobilization of personnel, tools, facilities and utilities related to the modular replacement which took place in three stages.  The pre-shutdown phase was completed in 14 days, the main shutdown phase was completed in 19 days and the commissioning and demobilisation phase was completed in 10 days. Kentech activities included:

  • The removal and replacement of:-
  •  
    • The ventilation system necessary for turbine enclosure panel removal and turbine skid enclosure panel removal.
    • Auxillary and load coupling guards, auxillary and load couplings and alignment checks for load and auxillaries coupling.
    • Instrument.
    • Outlet and inlet oil pipings, disconnection of fuel and air pipes.
    • Inlet extensors panel, of LP enclosure and of exhaust plenum upper half and exhaust vent pipes.
  • Lifting of module with the overhead cranes and unloading on the trailer on loading bay.
  • Installation of the new module with the overhead cranes plus complete mechanical, electrical and instrument installation.
  • Start up of the machine.
