2017 Annual WISER Award Winners Announced

We are delighted to announce that we have two WISER Winners for 2017.  Our first winner is, Mr Aquib Afrin. Aquib is a Safety Officer on the Clean Fuels Project in Kuwait and has shown amazing creativity and pro-activeness to increase safety awareness and the wellbeing of his co-workers. His initiatives have included the implementation of a heat stress flagging system, illuminated safety banners, a voice enabled mannequin, a ground penetration and excavation campaign (with the introduction of KentechMan!), installation of quarterly colour code awareness boards, a heat stress campaign and a heat stress 'conservatory' shelter, for which he received a special award from our client, FDH-JV. Aquib has also truly embraced the We Are Family campaign and the efforts he has taken to promote this with his colleagues has been second to none, with the implementation of a We Are Family banner which all the site team were invited to sign to show their commitment. He has also shown his musical abilities by developing videos and songs to share with the team on site promoting the Kentech family. Our second winner is Mr Gopakumar Gopinadhan, Assistant Electrician on the Nasr Full Field Development Project in the UAE. In addition to his strong set of behaviors on a daily basis, back in November of last year, Gopakumar noticed a burning rag as a result of some sparks from welders working at height and notified all of the team about the fire, enabling them all to get to the emergency assembly point safely. He then took a nearby fire extinguisher and successfully put the fire out. It takes courage to be willing to come forward and take initiative in these circumstances and the actions Gopakumar took on this day probably saved the lives of his coworkers. Sarah Kent recently visited both sites where these two exceptional employees work to present them with their awards and personally thank them for their actions. During her visits, she took the opportunity to speak to the whole site teams to stress the importance of safety and reiterate the 'We Are Family' message.  Both Aquib and Gopakumar will each enjoy an all expenses paid holiday for 2 to Dubai later this year. During her visit, Sarah also took the time to meet the whole site team as she was taken on a tour of the yard by Zaur Nadirli. She used the visit as an opportunity to stress the importance of safety and reiterate the 'We Are Family' message. Note: WISER is Kentech's Worker Involvement Safety Encouragement Award Scheme, a HSE incentive programme for employees to earn monthly, quarterly and annual safety awards.

Kentech Kazakhstan Receives Special Recognition from TCO for Safety Efforts

Kentech Kazakhstan have received some fantastic recognition for their safety efforts in the region from a key client in the region, TCO. TCO made specific mention of our We Are Family campaign and how it is helping to weave safety into our culture instead of just being a campaign. Steve Humphreys, Kentech Kazakhstan Regional Operations Director, tells us more here:- "It is fantastic to be recognised by TCO on page 2 of their “Change Agent Chatter” publication (extract attached) for some of the incentives we have introduced to stimulate continual improvement in our safety performance. In this context, a Change Agent is someone that each of TCO’s Business Partners have assigned to work with the TCO Fatality Prevention Team and that person is TCO’s main point of contact for deployment, awareness and adoption of Fatality Prevention efforts within their company and it's subcontractors. Our nominated Change Agent is our HSE Manager, Akhan Imangaliyev. It is noticeable how in this publication, TCO again draw attention to, and compliment, the great influence and impact that We Are Family is having. When a client such as TCO communicates across its organisation and to its full business partner network that “Kentech’s continued focus on safety and incorporating safety into their culture is impressive…” and finishes by thanking us for all we are doing, it is a fantastic endorsement and a great credit to the whole Kentech Kazakhstan Team. I'd like to thank the whole team for their efforts and contribution towards achieving this recognition. Please maintain the fantastic progress we have made; let’s continue in our efforts to keep each other safe, trust and respect each other and ultimately, establish this as the only acceptable standard in the way we do things, then preserve it as part of our culture."

Launch of 2018 HSE Campaign - WE ARE FAMILY

Today we are proud to launch our 2018 HSE Campaign...WE ARE FAMILY. We should all be proud of our HSE performance in 2017. Well done everyone! While this was a tremendous achievement we must not sit back and we should always strive for improvement. The WE ARE FAMILY campaign includes all of us; our families at home and our families at work. This is an exciting and unique campaign and one of inclusion, which enhances the concept of FAMILY to embrace all of our colleagues. Our enhanced FAMILY has members all over the world, who speak different languages and work in many different environments and under different conditions; some who work in foreign countries living in camp conditions who may only rotate home once or twice a year and others who work locally and see their family every day. However, we all work closely together as colleagues and we depend on each other professionally and depend on each other to keep us safe. Much like FAMILY members. Watch this space as we bring you real examples of what WE ARE FAMILY means to our colleagues, and their families, across the world as we drive this campaign forward throughout the year.

Across the group, we carried out the following Risk Management Processes on our sites:   49,447 Risk Assessments 264,323 Last Minute Risk Assessments (Take 5) 9,600 Site Safety Inspections 4,127 Behavioural Audits 631,960 Daily Tool Box Talks 53,117 Manpower Training Courses   The diligence of the project teams in maintaining very high standards of risk management on site was considered the principal contributor to our excellent 2017 safety performance. John Gilley, COO, commented “I cannot begin to express how proud I am of our worldwide workforce in this achievement.  The passion for safety on a very personal level on our sites is palpable.  We are like-minded and you are an exceptional group of people to work for, and with.  We will not rest until we see the day that we flatline this TRIR curve at zero accidents.  We will use our K2  Journey to help us interact differently, work differently, keep our heads in the game and specifically for 2018 we widen the HSE conversation to outside the workplace with our “WE ARE FAMILY” HSE Campaign.  I look forward to working with you all again in 2018 on the next phase of our HSE Journey together.”
