Kentech Qatar has been awarded two strategic maintenance contracts by Qatar Shell GTL comprising of over 3 million man hours of works over a five year period. Following the initial award of the HVAC General Maintenance & Engineering Support Services contract in September 2013, which will run for an initial duration of just over 5 years, Kentech have been awarded an additional contract to provide Electrical & Instrumentation Maintenance Services also.
The Qatar Shell GTL Plant, Pearl GTL, is located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, 80 km north of Doha, Qatar and is the world’s largest gas to liquids (GTL) plant.
The plant, a joint development by Qatar Petroleum and Shell, will process about three billion barrels-of-oil-equivalent over its lifetime from the world’s largest single non-associated gas field, the North Field, which stretches from Qatar’s coast out into the Gulf. The North Field contains more than 900 trillion cubic feet of gas, about 15% of worldwide gas resources. Pearl GTL produces cleaner-burning diesel and kerosene, base oils for top-tier lubricants, a chemical feedstock called naphtha, which is used to make plastics, and normal paraffin, which is used to produce detergents. It produces enough fuel to fill over 160,000 cars a day and enough synthetic base oil each year to make lubricants for more than 225 million cars.
The plant comprises of two identical trains, Train-1 and Train-2, and is the world’s largest source of GTL products, capable of producing 140,000 barrels of GTL products each day. The plant also produces 120,000 barrels of oil per day of natural gas liquids and ethane.
The scope of services involves the provision of HVAC Maintenance & Engineering Services and Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance Services and will see the Kentech team execute the routine maintenance services at the GTL plant and other surrounding sites within RAS Laffan Industrial city.
Kentech shall provide the supervision, labour, tools, equipment, spare parts and materials etc. required to carry out all the HVAC equipment and E&I maintenance services. The aim is to mitigate all threats to the availability of the plant’s HVAC equipment and systems by reducing the system and equipment failure rate and optimising the frequency of routine maintenance efforts. Kentech will fully integrate with the Pearl GTL maintenance team and shall develop a Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) Plan to achieve the above within the first year of the contract period.
This contract adds to Kentech’s working history on the Pearl GTL Plant. During the construction phase of the plant, Kentech provided electrical, instrumentation, HVAC and firewater ring main construction and testing works on the Water Treatment Plant, which forms an integral part of the gas to liquids process. We then continued to support Pearl GTL by providing maintenance personnel starting from the commissioning phase of the plant.
