In October 2009, Kentech was awarded a contract by SBM Inc for the electrical and instrumentation contract on the Delba III TDS 2500 Semi-Submersible Rig at GPC’s yard in Mussaffah.
Delba III is one of three semi-submersible rigs which were constructed by SBM at the yard during this period. The award of this contract followed on from our previous cooperation with GPC and SBM on Rig 1 - Lone Star and Rig 2 - Norbe VI.
Delba III is a dynamically positioned semi-submersible drilling unit of the TDS 2500 design which can operate in water depths of up to 2,400 meters and can drill wells of up to 10,000 meters below the seabed. The rig is now operating offshore Brazil by Delba Drilling International Cooperatie U.A.E.
Kentech’s scope of work included the detailed engineering and procurement activities as well as the full installation and pre-commissioning of the electrical and instrumentation installations.
To facilitate an accelerated completion schedule Kentech mobilised a peak work force of close to 1,000 personnel who delivered the accelerated completion date. Throughout the course of the project the Kentech project team executed over 1 million manhours without a lost time incident. Kentech has worked with GPC as a partner since 2006 offering an integrated service from yard to offshore hook-up and commissioning services. This partnership has covered global projects ranging from Angola to Brazil to Far Eastern Russia
